We Are Looking Forward to Working With You in 2026
Posted in Announcements
As we head into 2026, we’re excited about what the year has in store. From virtual, in-person, and hybrid trainings, to national conferences and local multi-system integration collaboration, we’re invigorated by what’s ahead. As we know your inboxes are likely heaping full this week, we’ll be rolling announcements about these programs throughout January! Each week, we’ll highlight just a few opportunities coming up in 2026.
This week, we are spotlighting our Multisystem work as we release a new publication on how system crossover spans generations, and as we engage communities in Mississippi, Washington, D.C., Minnesota, Iowa, and Kansas!

We’re excited to announce a new publication with the new year: “Surveilling Families: How System Crossover Spans Generations.” In this paper, author Ellie Kemper addresses a gap in extant research on the relationship between child welfare surveillance practices and parental system crossover.
Children and youth with active or historical involvement in the child welfare system are more likely to come into contact with the juvenile justice system. These youth, known as “crossover” or dual-system youth, face worse outcomes when compared to their single-system and non-system counterparts. Considering that the pathway to dual-system involvement for youth most often begins within the child welfare system, the present paper examines the influence of surveillance practices and poverty on the involvement of low-income children and parents.

January will bring CYJ to various parts of the U.S. including Jackson, Mississippi where we’ll engage the state level Crossover Workgroup in further development of their statewide guidance, as well as Washington, D.C. to continue establishing infrastructure to support cross-system collaboration among youth- and family-serving systems.

Throughout the year, CYJ will also be touching down in Minnesota, Kansas, and Iowa in addition to Mississippi and D.C. Work will commence in Ramsey County, Minnesota to strengthen local collaboration. In Iowa, Mississippi, and D.C., CYJ will continue support for the establishment of state (and district) wide infrastructure focused on enhancing practice and policies aimed at crossover youth. Finally, we look forward to continuing engagement and agency-based support for EmberHope Connections in Wichita, Kansas.
