New Qualitative Study on Perceptions of Professionals Working with Crossover Youth in Congregate Care

We’re pleased to promote a new paper, co-written by our own Karen Kolivoski! The study, “Perceptions of Professionals of Anti-Black Racism of Crossover Youth in Congregate Care,” by Sherri Y. Simmons-Horton, Abigail Williams-Butler, Camille R. Quinn, and Karen Kolivoski uses qualitative methods to explore how child welfare and youth justice professionals perceive Black youth involved in both systems.
Current literature on crossover youth has reported quantitative findings on the presence of race disparities among the crossover youth population and the regularity of placement of crossover youth in congregate settings. However qualitative research is limited in describing the perceptions of professionals on the distinct influence of the interplay of racial disparities and congregate placement for Black youth who crossover from the child welfare into the juvenile legal system. This study begins that much needed work.
We encourage you to read the whole paper, found here at Sage Journals! If you would like to learn more, please get in touch with Dr. Kolivoski at karen.kolivoski@georgetown.edu!
